July 4 Party in the Park schedule announced

Posted

This year’s Independence Day Party in the Park will be held Sunday afternoon in the Fayette City Park.

The event this year is spearheaded by Stephanie Ford and Joshua Kirby. Cathy Thogmorton, who previously organized the event, will be honored as this year’s Grand Marshal.

The Fayette City Pool will open to the public at noon and there will be no charge for entry.

Festivities in the park kick off at 2 p.m. with a variety of events. All vendors, kids’ activities situated around the pool, and a beer garden at the upper shelter house will open for business at this time.

At Lembke Field, Frog and Turtle races begin at 2 p.m. for kids 12 and under. Sponsored by Central Missouri Transmission, the races will once again feature hefty payouts for the top three spots in each race. First-place winners will receive $250, with $100 for second place and $50 for third place. The Fayette Rotary Club cornhole tournament, which had been scheduled for this time, has been canceled.

The Pedal Pull begins at 2:30 at Lembke Field, and an emergency vehicle exhibition runs from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in the flat area by the restrooms.

The Quilt of Valor presentation will take place at 3 p.m. in the lower shelter house, followed by the Independence Day parade around the park at 4 p.m., and the Salute to Veterans in the lower shelter house at 4:30.

The lower shelter house will host a musical preview for the upcoming production of Guys & Dolls, courtesy of Fayette Main Street, at 5 p.m., followed by storytelling by Karen at 5:30 p.m.

The Watermelon Roll, sponsored by Endless Options, will be held on the hill near the ball field at 6 p.m. Youth ages three to nine, and 10 to 16, can compete for cash prizes in their respective age categories.

A fireworks display courtesy of the City of Fayette will begin at dusk.

This year’s celebration will include an inaugural raffle to assist in fundraising for future Independence Day celebrations. Raffle prizes this year include a gift pack from Sheep Dog Creations, a large fireworks pack from R&S Fireworks, gift cards from Casey’s, a gift certificate and other hair care items from The Peacock, and a Scentsy gift basket from Brenda McDonald.
