Juneteenth 2021: “In This Together”

Posted

St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Juneteenth Celebration Committee are finalizing plans for the 21st Juneteenth celebration, which will take place from June 18 through 20. The theme this year is “In This Together.”

The annual coordinators, Pastor Karen Jones and Tim Jackman stated that Safety will be the number one priority. “We are excited to host an expanded celebration this year in spite of the recent pandemic situation. Community interest has been extremely high.”

Like past celebrations, there will be grand marshals announced in the upcoming newspaper edition. Most activities will occur on the Howard County Courthouse Square.

In lieu of the annual parade, a motorcade will once again promenade through town on Saturday morning beginning at 10 a.m. It will travel various routes through the city.

New events this year include a youth poster contest with prizes in three different age groups, and a fireworks display at dusk Saturday evening at Paige-Liberty Park.

Those who wish to take part in any way during this three-day community celebration should reach  out to Pastor Jones at (573) 680-9889 or Tim Jackman (573) 289-3714.

A more detailed article including schedule of events will be in the June 2 edition of the Fayette Advertiser. This is a great time to celebrate diversity and inclusiveness of all God’s people. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend Juneteenth.
