Justin (Chumley) Hazlett

Justin Dean “Chumley” Hazlett, 59, of Moberly, passed away March 11, 2022 at Boone Health in Columbia.

Justin was born in Kansas City, Kansas, on August 26, 1962 a son of James L. Hazlett, Sr. and Joanne Walcott Hazlett. He married Shelley Hartman on August 24, 2022 in Moberly.  She survives at their home.

Chumley was foreman and lead painter for Hazlett Painting from 1999 – 2009 and was manager of Brickhouse Bar and Grill in Fayette from 2010 – 2011. He had also been employed with Griffin Wheel in Kansas City, KS. He attended Timberlake Christian Church and was proud of being baptized and rededicating his life at Grace Fellowship Church in 2015.

He loved his family and was unselfish in helping others and being respectful of them. Chumley’s favorite activities included bowling, softball, cooking, especially barbequing and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs. He liked listening to classic rock especially AC/DC.

In addition to his wife, Shelley, Justin is survived by two sons, Mikey Torres and Dan Torres; three daughters, Misti Hartman, Jennifer Hazlett and Ashton Hazlett; three brothers, James Hazlett, Jr., Jay Hazlett and Zach Hazlett; two sisters, Jeana Hazlett and Lizzie Phillips; his father-in-law, Wayne Hartman; his mother-in-law, Glenda Gerry; his step-mother, Carolyn Hazlett and several much loved grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Janice Wright.

Celebration of Life Services at Fayette will be held on Saturday, May 14 at 11 a.m. at Faith Family Church in Fayette with a BBQ following at 1 p.m. at the Howard County Fairgrounds.

A Memorial Gathering will also be held in Moberly at Timberlake Christian Church on Saturday, May 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m..

Memorial contributions are suggested payable to The Justin “Chumley” Hazlett Memorial Fund at Commercial Trust Bank, P.O. Box 471, Fayette, MO 65248.
