Fayette resident and business owner Kenny O’Brian, age 85, passed away unexpectedly at his station doing what he loved on December 3, 2024.
Kenneth Earl O’Brian was born on January 21, 1939, in Howard County, Mo., a son to the late Earl Taylor and Cora Lou (Potter) O’Brian. Kenny graduated from Harrisburg High School with the class of 1957. He then went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Central Methodist University. On September 29, 1958, Kenny married the love of his life, Lola Bartmess, at First Christian Church in Fayette. The couple have enjoyed over 66 years of marriage together.
Kenny was always active within the Fayette community and maintained a strong work ethic his entire life. Kenny started his career owning and operating his service station, O’Brian MFA, which was a job he held since November 11, 1971. While working at the service station, Kenny also raised cattle on the family farm. Kenny served his community in various capacities, most prominently serving as Alderman and City Mayor of Fayette. He also served on the Fayette Housing Board and was a member of the Free Masons.
Survivors include his wife, Lola O’Brian; four children, Susan (Duncan) Weathers of Denton, Texas, Scott (Kathy) O’Brian of Harrisburg, Pa., Greg (Lori) O’Brian of Columbia, Mo., and Kevin O’Brian of Harrisburg, Mo.; and eight grandchildren, Cory and Tim Weathers, Kelsey and Kalen O’Brian, Taylor and Kristen O’Brian, and Brianna and Bailey O’Brian.
Following Kenny’s final wishes, there will be no public memorial service. Memorials may be made in his honor to the Fayette Senior Center.
