The Fayette Lady Falcons won their second-consecutive game in three days over New Franklin on Monday, 12-0, to move to 10-2 overall. On Saturday, Fayette bested the Lady Bulldogs in the championship game of the Terry Early New Franklin Tournament, 15-3.

Senior Preslee Sunderland took the win in the circle for Fayette on Monday, allowing just four hits. She struck out six with zero walks. She allowed one hit in the first inning, a leadoff single by freshman Lilly Chitwood, before striking out three straight batters to start the game.

At the plate, Preslee led the team with two hits in four at-bats with an RBI and three runs scored.

Fayette got on the board early, notching four runs in the bottom of the first and five more in the bottom of the second. Freshman Leah Thies drove in the Falcons’ first two runs when she reached base on a fielder’s choice ground ball in the bottom of the first. Senior Madi Lawson made it 3-0 with a sacrifice ground ball to score senior Hannah Quint from third base. Thies then came home on a two-out grounder by sophomore Skylar Sunderland, who reached on an error.

Fayette took advantage of eight errors committed by New Franklin in Monday’s game. Two errors and a walk early in the bottom of the second inning allowed Fayette to score a run and place runners on second and third in front of power hitter Megan Lewis.

Lewis took full advantage of the situation. After fouling off the first pitch of her at-bat, she blasted a shot over the left field fence for a three-run home run that put the Falcons in front 8-0.

Another error with two outs allowed Fayette to score once more in the second inning.

The Falcons would add three more runs to their tally in the third while holding New Franklin scoreless for the 12-0 victory.

Sophomore Emersyn Eads took the loss for New Franklin from the pitching rubber. She allowed 12 runs (three earned) on six hits in four innings with three walks and one strikeout.

Eads recorded one of four singles hit by the Bulldogs all day. Junior Sophia Held, Chitwood, and senior Addy Salmon accounted for the team’s other three hits.

For Fayette, Lewis finished the game with three RBI on one hit and a walk. She scored three runs. She leads the team this year with a .469 batting average in 12 games. Monday’s home run was her third of the season. She also has one triple under her belt and has never struck out in 32 at-bats.

Leadoff batter Addison Newell recorded her eighth extra-base of the season with a double on a line drive to left field in the bottom of the third. She also walked once and struck out once.

Thies scored two runs with one hit and one RBI in two at-bats. Freshman Browyn Eubanks ended the day with one hit, a single in the bottom of the fourth. She also reached base on a leadoff bunt and error in the bottom of the second.

Fayette travels to Russellville tonight (Wednesday) for a 5 p.m. non-conference bout. The Falcons return to Lewis & Clark play on Thursday at Westran.

On Saturday, the Falcons host Slater, Sturgeon, Harrisburg, Glasgow, and Jamestown for the Fayette Tournament. Pool play begins at 9 a.m.
