Lanes inks letter of intent to be an Eagle

Posted

Harrisburg basketball standout Tanner Lanes signed a letter of intent on May 11 to play basketball at Central Methodist University next year.

“You know, I think they have a really good program at Central,” said Lanes. “I’ve known coach Sherman for a long time. I’ve been going to camps there for awhile and I just feel like it’s a good spot to be.

“I’m not really sure how they will want to use me,” said Lanes. “I’m just going to go in there, work as hard as I can to try to get some minutes and do whatever coach Sherman needs.”

Lanes transitions to Central with an impressive pedigree. He is a three-sport letterman, playing first base on coach Chris Ackman’s Bulldog baseball team, and quarterback for coach Steve Hopkins’ football team. But  where Lanes has excelled the most in is on the basketball court. Tall for a point guard, Lanes took to the position as if he had played there his entire life.

Harrisburg’s all-time leading three-point shooter, Lanes scored more than 1,500 points during his high school career and made all-district and first team all-conference four times, and was a two-time all-state performer.

“We are extremely excited to watch Tanner continue his basketball career at CMU,” said Harrisburg coach Kyle Fisher. “Tanner had a great four years here and I’m excited to see him go to a university that will challenge him as a basketball player and a student.”

Lanes will major in Business Administration at Central. “I’ll minor in something,” he said. “I just haven’t figured that out yet.”
