Larry Dean York

Larry Dean York, 75, of Jefferson City, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, April 05, 2022, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. 

He was born on October 22, 1946, in Quincy, Illinois to the late Robert and Helen Venita (Postle) York. He was united in marriage to Rebecca “Becky” Borg in Fayette, Missouri on February 3, 1968. The Yorks have maintained a home in Fayette for many years and have a farm on Route E.

Larry was a 1964 graduate of Quincy High School where his football prowess earned him All-State honors and a scholarship to the University of Missouri. He graduated from Mizzou in 1968 with a B.S. Ed. He began his career at Shawnee Mission West as a math teacher, football coach, and assistant track coach. Two years later, he and his wife moved to Sedalia, Missouri where he taught math, was the football assistant coach, and also served as the head track and cross-country coach. In 1972 they moved to Jefferson City where Larry began the cross-country program and eventually became the head track coach as well.

Larry taught math and coached for his entire career. He also became the Athletic Director at Jefferson City High School, and upon retiring from public schools he became the Director of Athletics at William Woods University until his retirement in 2011.

Larry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Becky; sons, Robert Conrad York (daughter-in-law, Ann) and Andrew Carl (Rudy) York; grandchildren, Mallory, Mason, Andrew, and Anna York; great-grandchildren, Lyla and Jace Luebbering, and Rowyn York; and brothers, Roy L. Carter and Carl Echternkamp. 

He was proceeded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Roy and Sarah Borg, sister, Joyce Holtschlag, and grandson, Curtis Luebbering.

Friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. A celebration of life service will directly follow at 12:30 p.m. A private Inurnment will take place in Fayette at Walnut Ridge Cemetery at a later date.
