Lawrence A Moffet, 71, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on April 26th, 2023, from complications of Hodgkin lymphoma, surrounded by his family and close friends.
 
Lawrence was born in Modesto, California. He graduated from Graceland College in 1973 and began his career as owner, editor, and publisher of Kearney County News in Minden, NE. While receiving his Master of Divinity degree from St. Paul School of
Theology in Kansas City, MO, he served as pastor of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Fayette, MO.
Lawrence served as pastor at FaithWestwood UMC, Hanscom Park (Omaha, NE) and First United Methodist Church (Lincoln, NE) for many years. Throughout his entire life he enjoyed every minute meeting and speaking with all generations of families
and friends. He was passionately involved as a board member at the Lydia Patterson Institute in El Paso, TX. In 2019, he retired from United Methodist ministry, moved back to his cherished Kansas City, and became an active member at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
 
Lawrence is survived by his mother Margaret Moffet, his sister Beth Moffet/Booker (Blane), nephew/nieces Brandon Booker (Christine), Jana Webb (Nate), Kara Booker/Lopez (Angel), Jason and Eric Russell, Angela Russell/Storms and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
 
Lawrence was proceeded in death by his father, John Moffet, and sisters, Joanne Moffet and Diane Moffet/Russell.
The celebration of life service/reception will be held and live streamed (YouTube) on May 5, 2023, at 2:00pm at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church (1307 Holmes St, Kansas City, MO 64106).
 
Lawrence A. Moffet provided joy, light, inspiration, love and will be remembered within the lives he touched through his ministries and acquaintances. We will always love, love, love you our son/brother/uncle/father-figure/friend.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for memorial donations be given to the American Cancer Society, Lydia Patterson Institute in El Paso, TX, or other local ministry and cancer charities. The family of Lawrence wishes to thank The University of Kansas Cancer Center and North Kansas City Hospital for all the research and thoughtful care they gave the last few months of Lawrence’s amazing life.
 
A celebration of life will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2023, at

St. Mary's Episcopal Church
