In 1960, Lewis joined the military for the 2nd time by enlisting in the US Air Force.  He was stationed numerous places stateside and abroad, also serving in Vietnam during the Vietnam War for a year.  Of all the places he was stationed, Scotland was by far his favorite.  On June, 18th, 1963, Lewis married Sheila Wilson of Ayr, Scotland, and the two shared almost 58 years together.  After his retirement from the military in 1971, the couple stayed in Scotland until 1980 when they moved back to his hometown of Columbia, MO, where he drove a bus for the city of Columbia for several years.

In 1984, the family bought a farm and moved to Fayette, where he stayed until May of last year.  After his military career, Lewis was a truck driver, including owning his own dump truck business until the age of 83.  Lewis loved to golf, and while stationed in Scotland, took the opportunity to play any chance that he could get.

Lewis is survived by his wife, Sheila, of the home and their six children.  Lew (Deb) of Shelbina, MO.  Jim of Carrollton, MO.  Matt (Damla) of Methwold, UK.  Paul (Shana) of Big Cabin, OK.  Jon (Leslie) of Fayette, MO and one daughter, Lynne (Travis) Dodd of Columbia, MO.  Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Lewis was preceded in death by all of his siblings.  Barbara Jo Baker, Patricia Gayle Benzenhoeffer and Linda Darlene Sutton.  A military ceremony will be held Monday, March 29th, at 11 a.m. in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.  Memorials are suggested to: Missouri Veterans Cemetery 1479 County Road 1675, Jacksonville, MO, 65260.
