June Greetings from the Howard County Public Library! Summer does not officially arrive until Tuesday, the 21st, but it is in full swing at the library!
We have now had two sessions of our middle school reading club and we are very encouraged by the number of young readers who are attending! There are still two sessions remaining, which will take place on Tuesday, June 14, and Tuesday, June 21 at 11:30 a.m. If someone in your family will be in middle school during the coming year and likes to read and talk about books, they would probably enjoy our club! We talk, play games, and do crafts.
Plans are also underway for our young readers’ Summer Reading Program which will begin on Thursday, July 7 at 9 a.m., and continue each Thursday during the month of July. Each session will be repeated the following Saturday, also at 9 a.m. This year’s theme is “Oceans of Possibilities” and we will be exploring this theme through various activities, including reading, games, and crafts! Come join the fun! Stop by the library for early sign-up on Thursday, June 30 and Friday, July 1 when we will hold a “Chalk the Walk” as a way to kick off the summer reading program!
The first Friday of each month will continue to be “Block Day” when we make available a wide variety of blocks for our young patrons to show their creativity!
Our regular reading programs will also continue all summer with Toddler Story time on Thursdays at 10 a.m. and our older elementary readers’ Story Time on Fridays at 11 a.m. Our adults-only reading club, “Readers,” meets on the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m .For more information regarding any of these groups or programs, call the library, check out our website or our Facebook Page or stop by to see us.
Speaking of checking out, as always, we have lots of new books available and old favorites too! Come visit your library and check out a book! Happy Summer!
