Local churches announce Easter services

Several local churches have alerted the Advertiser to special Easter services this weekend. 

Easter, also called Pascha or Resurrection Sunday, is the Christian religious festival and cultural holiday that commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. The New Testament describes this as having occurred on the third day of his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary.

Easter Sunday is observed on the first Sunday after the Paschal Full Moon, the full moon that occurs on or after the Spring Equinox.

This year, Easter Sunday is on April 9.

Palm Sunday was observed on April 2, with Passover beginning Thursday April 6, followed by Good Friday on April 7.

• St. Mary Catholic Church - Holy Thursday Mass: 7 p.m. - Good Friday Service: 5:30 p.m. - Holy Saturday Easter Vigil: 8:30 p.m. - Easter morning Mass: 10 a.m.

• St. Joseph Catholic Church - Good Friday Service: 7:30 p.m. - Easter morning Mass: 8 a.m.

• Second Baptist Church - Sunrise Service: 8 a.m., Rev. Susan McCollegan speaking

• St. Paul UMC -  Easter Egg Hunt: Saturday, April 8, 10 a.m. - Regular Service: Sunday, April 9, 11 a.m.

• Faith Family Church - Sunrise Service & Breakfast: 7:30 a.m. (No 8:30 a.m. service) - Resurrection Sunday Worship Celebration: 10 a.m. 

• Grace Fellowship - Easter Breakfast: April 9, 9:30 a.m.
