Three local high school sophomores attended the Sophomore Pilgrimage in Jefferson City recently. Kay Sullivan from Fayette, Olivia Haskamp from Glasgow, and Sophia Held from New Franklin were selected by the GFWC Golden Study Club to attend the annual event.
The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) of Missouri sponsored several hundred sophomore high school students from throughout the state to Jefferson City to hear from elected state officials and tour various state buildings. The pilgrimage is a statewide event, which honors sophomore students who were selected from their schools based on their scholarship, demonstration of high standards of honor, courage, citizenship, leadership, and service. It is important to recognize these outstanding students as they expand their skills in school programs, community involvement and family.
After the students toured the State Capitol and the Supreme Court Library, they went to lunch where they were welcomed by GFWC of Missouri President, Judy Gustafson. The students heard remarks from Lt. Governor Mike Kehoe, First Lady Teresa Parson, Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick, and Supreme Court Judge, Robin Ransom among other elected officials.
The General Federation of Women’s Clubs is an international women’s organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.
