The Howard County Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution bestowed its annual Good Citizen Awards to local high school and junior high students during a ceremony at Schnell Hall in Fayette on Sunday.
High school winners were selected based on dependability, service, and patriotism. Each received a certificate, pin, and a check from the chapter. All first-place essays will be submitted to the DAR’s statewide contest.
High school winners were Kaitlynn Monning from Glasgow, Aaron Neimeier from Harrisburg, and Kaleb Friebe from Fayette.
This year’s essay contest theme for the seventh and eighth grades was “Enjoying a New Kind of Tea Party.” All first-, second-, and third-place winners received a certificate and a check.
The top three eighth-grade winners from St. Mary’s School in Glasgow are Alliyah Monnig (1st), Kamryn Kottman (2nd), and Jayson Fuemmeler (3rd). Seventh-grade winners were Addyson Perry (1st), Emma Westhues (2nd), and Eli Johanning (3rd).
The top three winners for Clark Middle School eighth graders in Fayette are Atley Cox (1st), Julia Young (2nd), and Tessa Gose (3rd).
