Columbia resident, and former Glasgow resident, Lois Sellmeyer, 96, passed away at Boone Hospital Center on June 5, 2020.
Lois B. Sellmeyer was born October 3, 1923, south of Glasgow, Mo., a daughter to the late Edwin and Winnie (Bentley) Bentley. She attended Glasgow High School and graduated in 1941. Lois furthered her education, earning a degree in 1946 from Northeast Missouri State Teacher’s College (Truman State University) in Kirksville, Mo. Lois taught second grade in Michigan Public Schools for 35 years, and in several instances, taught the second generation of families. On June 30, 1947, Lois married the love of her life, Daniel Sellmeyer, in Detroit, Mich. Dan preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 1997.
Lois had a huge interest in studying history and genealogy. Along with her husband, Dan, researched and recorded their family histories. Lois also stayed active in numerous organizations including, the Historical Society Missouri, the National Trust for Historical Preservation, Michigan Education Association - retired, and the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel.
Survivors include her sister, Linda (Bill) Hord, of Glasgow, Mo.; nephew, Michael (Sue) Nelson, of Bates City, Mo.; niece, Kathy Bilski, of Owasso, Okla.; four great-nieces and nephews, Danny, Matt, Nichole and Christian; and two step-nephews, Brett and Hunter. In addition to her husband and parents, Lois was preceded in death by a nephew, Jimmy Nelson.
Visitation for Mrs. Sellmeyer will be Noon-2 p.m., Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at Parker-Millard Funeral Home in Columbia, Mo. Additional visitations will be held 6-7 p.m., Tuesday evening, June 9, 2020, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow, Mo, and an hour before the service on Wednesday, starting at 9 AM. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow, with Rev. Karen Alden officiating. Interment will follow the service at Washington Cemetery in Glasgow.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Richland Cemetery or All Saints Cemetery, in care of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service, 112 Market St., Glasgow, Mo. 65254.
