A three-day celebration this weekend will herald in the grand re-opening of McMillan’s Cafe. After two decades, Fayette’s favorite watering hole has opened again to the jubilation of Fayette natives and Central Methodist alumni around the world.
Originally opened in 1928 on South Main Street in Fayette, Mac’s, as it is affectionally known, closed in 2003. The new location is two doors north of its original location at 108 South Main Street, a half block off the downtown square.
The bar and restaurant re-opened on January 25, and already scores of Mac’s faithful have made their way back to visit with owners Brian McMillan and Peggy O’Connell over beer and pizza.
The celebration will kick off Friday night with live music by Jeff and Noah at 7 p.m. Thad Requet will perform at 8 p.m. on Saturday, and Bart Ballew caps the weekend with a performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Drink specials and games will be featured throughout the weekend, including a cornhole tournament. Those returning to the famed establishment are asked to bring photos and memorabilia to share from all of the great times had at Mac’s over the decades.
