To the Editor:
In Missouri citizens have had the constitutional right for over 100 years to submit initiative petitions for constitutional amendments to be placed on the ballot so that voters can have a voice in changes to the Constitution of Missouri. In February of this year the Missouri House passed House Joint Resolution 43 repealing these sections of the constitution and revising the initiative petition process. These proposed changes would limit the power of Missourians in our government. Tim Taylor, our Representative from House District 48 voted for these regressive changes.
The bill has been sent to the Missouri Senate for further debate and consideration. We urge our Missouri State Senator from District 21 Denny Hoskins to vote against these efforts to deny or diminish the power of Missouri citizens to change the State Constitution by ballot initiative petition. We urge citizens to contact Senator Hoskins and let him know mid-Missourians value our constitutional rights.
