Alfredo Hicks, Jr., charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a Columbia man on Dec. 30 in Fayette, appeared in Howard County court July 15 for a hearing.
Hicks’ attorney, public defender Robert Fleming, indicated that the defense is awaiting an offer from the state, represented by Melissa Ann Pierce from the Missouri Attorney General’s office, and Howard County Prosecutor Deborah Riekhof. Fleming told Judge Scott Hayes that he does not intend to waste state and county money taking depositions if a plea agreement could be reached.
The state will reportedly not seek the death penalty.
The case was continued to August 19 for a plea/trial setting.
