Nation has lost its senses

To the Editor:

Our nation has officially taken leave of whatever senses ever possessed.  As I sit at home, in the coronavirus sequester, I hear the following: 1) our president calls this a “hoax”, states it will “magically disappear” when the weather “gets warmer in April”. Well, here we are in mid-April, three-fourths of a million of our fellow Americans are KNOWN to be contaminated and we are approaching officially 40,000 deaths from the virus. Then the president blames the governors of the states. Why? They did not stock up before hand for this. Huh? How does a state or any entity for that matter, stock up for such a thing? Then, in almost the same breath he says, “no one could have seen this coming.” Well, that just further illustrates my point.

The president puts his son-in-law who, in my best approximation, is eminently qualified to be in charge of the task force of distribution of goods by the fact he married the boss’s daughter, then the same son-in-law says in a national press conference the stockpile is “ours.” Just who is “our” in this sentence? I read that as saying the federal government and this is further exemplified by the FACT the Health and Human Services website changed the wording of what the stockpile is for from to be used by the states to essentially what Mr. Son-In-Law said.

Ok, lets go to Congress. We are faced with the biggest pandemic since the Spanish flu and what do they do? Leave the capitol! What a dereliction of duty! They expect our EMS, police, fire personnel, grocers, truckers, and others to stay on the job and they go into hiding. Good work, Congress!

Now we have protesters in several states out protesting that they are being told to stay at home. This is a VIRUS, that KILLS people and these knuckleheads get in the streets, block traffic (often to hospitals) and march around with their “Don’t Tread on Me” and Confederate flags so they can voice their freedom. Well, if they want to be free to die, then so be it. I personally will not shed a tear.

And, as if that isn’t crazy enough the president (remember him?) tweets “LIBERATE MICHIGAN” and ‘LIBERATE MINNESOTA” and ‘LIBERATE VIRGINIA”. This—is after he came out with what appeared to be a halfway (at least for him) sensible plan to get the society going when the virus is under control.

Now I see where “Dr. Phil” is popping off about the topic. He is no more a “Dr.” than I am and has the attitude because people die from smoking, car crashes and swimming pools, it should be ok for people to die from the virus. And Dr. Oz, who IS a real doctor, has many of the same statements. Who can we thank for these two eggheads? None other than Oprah Winfrey.

I, for one, am scared about the whole thing because my health is such that should I get this virus I doubt seriously I would survive due to my health already. I will say this: I voted for our present president (but what choice did we really have?) but I certainly will not repeat that mistake. I cannot bring myself to vote for Biden as he is no better than the person Trump ran against last time. No, my vote for President of the United States will be a purely symbolic and in form of protest, and I guess one can say will be my own form of insanity. My vote will go to Vermin Supreme. If you have never heard of him, look him up on google. He cannot be any worse than what we have had the last 35 years. I figure Missouri will vote for Trump and so it will not matter and if my single vote would tip the scales to Biden then I will not be sad in the least.

Our society has gone straight to the junk pile and I see no sign of any correction any time soon. I can only feel the founding fathers are so dizzy from spinning in their graves.

Sincerely,

Harold Kerr
