The state has added several additional charges against Emmett S. Wood, Jr., the Franklin man accused in the stabbing death of 22-year-old Courtney Clardy that occurred on Labor Day. He was initially charged with one count of second-degree murder.
Wood was arrested by the Missouri State Highway Patrol on Sept. 8 after being on the run since the night before.
Wood, 44, now faces four additional charges, including armed criminal action, two counts of first-degree assault, and one count of kidnapping. The new charges were filed on Oct. 1 by Howard County Prosecutor Deborah Riekhof.
According to online court documents, on Sept. 28 Wood was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine his competency before the case may proceed.
Wood is represented by public defender Robert Fleming. He is scheduled to appear before Judge Mason Gebhardt in Howard County court on Oct. 27 for a preliminary hearing.
