New Franklin City Council swears in new members

The New Franklin City Council swore in two new members at its regular meeting on Monday May 9 at 7 p.m. Both new members, Rachael Brown-Hammers and Rick Newell, represent Ward 1 and were sworn in by Melissa Crowley at the beginning of the meeting.

At the meeting, the council voted on a new ordinance, Bill number 05.09.2022, Ordinance number 802, which revokes ordinance 340.115 section A paragraph 4. The change removes a requirement for owners of ATVs to display a registration sticker.

The board reviewed three bids for fire hydrants and voted to order 10 new fire hydrants and four valves to replace worn out and defective equipment in the city. They also voted to allow a professional fireworks display on Memorial Day Weekend as part of the Pedaler’s Jamboree events.

The board also reviewed Statements of Qualifications from three engineering firms for the purpose of repairing water and sewer issues: Bartlett & West, McClure, and Miko. After reviewing the documents, the board voted to hire Bartlett & West to begin the process.

Finally, board members discussed possibilities for hiring a city employee to take care of administrative tasks related to nuisance property enforcement, and discussed what to do with the city’s vacant police station. The city has one payment left on the property, due in November of this year.

The New Franklin city council meets regularly at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of the month. Meetings are open to the public.
