New Franklin city council votes to sell police car

Posted

The New Franklin city council discussed employee compensation and the community building during its regular monthly meeting on March 9.

Emily Smith from the Howard and Cooper County Girl Scouts explained to the council that the troop would like to use the community building for meetings and events. While the scouts wish to use the building free of charge, in exchange they will commit to small city projects such as park clean ups and maintenance of flower beds. The council liked the idea and granted the request unanimously.

The employee compensation hours policy was up for debate this month. Currently, employees may use their comp hours within the pay period in which they were earned. After talking it out, the council decided the policy as is.

The Council decided at this month’s meeting to sell the 2013 Ford Taurus police car. The car has approximately 50,000 miles on it. They will be accepting sealed bids for the car. The money from the car will be used for city vehicle maintenance.

New Franklin city services have been filling potholes around town. Crews will continue fixing the roads over the next few weeks and have requested more filler to continue. They are focused on well-used roads in high-traffic areas. City services have also fixed water meters and lines over the past month.

The New Franklin city council meets regularly on the second Monday of every month. The next meeting will be on Monday, April 13 at 7 p.m. Meetings are open and the public is invited.
