Hanging close to Tuscumbia until the final whistle, the Lady Bulldogs fell Thursday evening to the Lady Lions 57-55.
“It was a tough loss, “said New Franklin head coach Morgan Vetter. “We had opportunities and worked hard, but couldn’t finish late.”
One point separated the two teams at the end of the first quarter with the Lady Lions leading 10-9. Heading into the locker room, Tuscumbia had widened it’s lead to five, then to eight at the end of three periods.
New Franklin poured it on in the fourth and outscored the Lady Lions 17-11, but it was not quite enough as the Lady Bulldogs came up short and suffered the two-point loss.
Junior Carly Dorson had a career type game, scoring 26 points on the night. She paced New Franklin scorers in the fourth quarter surge by scoring eight points to try to put the Lady Bulldogs over the top.
Senior Kristen Flick added eight points and junior Addy Salmon put in six. Junior Emma Rice added five. Senior Abby Maupin and freshman Kebrea Fair put in three apiece while junior Kelsi Fair and freshman Brynn Belstle put in two apiece.
