Junior Abby Maupin led the New Franklin Lady Bulldogs to a fourth-place finish in the Glasgow Invitational as coach Morgan Vetter’s girls split their first two games before dropping the third-place game to Cairo, 43-30. Maupin scored 23, 18, and 10 points in games on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
“We have some injury stuff, and quarantine and all that good stuff that a lot of people are battling right now but we still have five, so that means we still can play,” said Vetter.
“Maupin’s a junior for us this year. She’s always been a big-time player for us. But to be honest with you, all of them stepped up tonight. They all scored, which in my opinion is a really big accomplishment. They all stuck in the game, no one fouled out, and they all put points up on the board. It definitely was a group effort.”
For most of the week, New Franklin played with the minimum five players. New Franklin will travel Tuesday night to Fayette for a 6:30 p.m. start with the Lady Falcons, followed by another road trip to Madison on Friday.
