The 10-8 New Franklin girls welcomed the 13-8 Brunswick Lady Wildcats into New Franklin on Saturday for a game that had been rescheduled from earlier in the week due to snow. Coach Vetter and the Lady Bulldogs may have wished it had snowed more by the end of the day as they suffered their ninth loss of the season 47-41.
With the Lady Bulldogs still missing the services of senior starter Abby Maupin the two teams stayed close throughout the game with Brunswick holding an 8-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
New Franklin battled back in the second outscoring Brunswick 16-13 to take a 22-21 lead into the locker room.
In the third, Brunswick put up one more point than New Franklin to tie the game at
32 all.
New Franklin’s leading scorer, junior Carly Dorson, playing with four fouls, was shut down in the fourth quarter.
Brunswick senior Harleigh Lewis lit up the scoreboard with eight points in the period to lead the Lady Wildcats to the 47-41 victory.
Dorson led all scorers with 15 points on the night while senior Kristen Flick put up 10. Junior Addy Salmon added eight.
Freshman Kebrea Fair put up three points while classmate Brynn Belstle and junior Kelsi Fair added two apiece. Freshman Tatum Hoover rounded out the NF GirlsNew Franklin scoring with one point.
New Franklin did battle at home with Glasgow on Monday (see page 9) and hosted Slater on Tuesday after The Advertiser went to press.
The Lady Bulldogs then will go on the road Friday to take on Sturgeon at 6 p.m.
