New Franklin school board swears in two new members

Two new members of the New Franklin R-I Board Education were sworn in to office at the board’s most recent meeting on Monday, April 19. Alan Marshall and Kirk Wilmsmeyer emerged as the winners of a four-person ballot during the April 6 municipal and school board elections.

Marshall received the top vote count with 106, and Wilmsmeyer garned 104. Matt McGruder pulled in 65 of the 327 votes cast, and Lisa Maupin had 51. Terms are for three years. Neither of the two incumbents, Darren Harris and John Bailey, sought re-election.

The New Franklin school board election was one of only two contested races. The lack of candidates county-wide made for a low turnout as only 6.49 percent of voters cast ballots.

The race drew the most voters by far with 327 of the 350 countywide ballots cast.
