Alexia Sprick drove in five runs and pitched a shutout for New Franklin on Thursday. The Lady Bulldogs put up six runs in the second inning and defeated Sturgeon 13-0 to improve to 4-2 in CAC play and 7-6 overall.

Sprick went 3-4 at the plate with two doubles. She pitched all five innings and gave up just three singles, no walks, and struck out five.

Sophia Held drove in two runs with a single to left during New Franklin’s big second inning. She also drew two walks.

Kayce Hundley and Abby Maupin each had a double and an RBI. Carly Dorson was 1-2 with two walks and an RBI.

“Sturgeon had some starters missing, so the score is deceiving because of that,” New Franklin coach Ross Dowell said.

“We really had to work hard at the plate. Some of us made some adjustments, but some of us did not.

“We were solid defensively behind Sprick. Besides Monday, we played really well this week.”

Isabelle Matney had a hit and an RBI for New Franklin. Addy Salmon drove in a run as well.

New Franklin drew 10 walks and did not strike out once.
