New Franklin wins twelfth in a row with good defensive effort

New Franklin allowed just three made field goals over the final three quarters of a 47-29 win over Glasgow on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs trailed by three points before going on a 15-0 run that began in the first quarter and lasted into the third.

“We just did what coach told us to do,” New Franklin senior Crayton Gallatin said.

“Press and try to get the ball, that’s really all we do. We run teams to death and hopefully they back down sooner or later.”

Gallatin had the first bucket of the game for the Bulldogs, who trailed 9-2 after Drew Sanders drained three shots from the 3-point line for Glasgow during the first 90 seconds of play.

Antwaun Herriford gave Glasgow a 14-11 lead with his 3-pointer late in the first quarter, but the Yellowjackets would not score again until midway through the third.

“They’re long, they’re athletic, they’re smart and they’ve been playing defense together for a long time and they make it difficult for you,” Glasgow coach Mick Cropp said. “We are prone to long lapses of not scoring and tonight was just another example of it.”

Noah Boss

Despite the scoring drought, back-to-back baskets from Trevor Sanders and Noah Boss had the Yellowjackets within eight points in the third quarter.

Tre Cowans answered with two big buckets to give New Franklin a 32-19 heading into the fourth.

Gavin Bishop had seven of his 17 points in the fourth quarter as the Bulldog lead grew to 21 points.

“Defensively, I thought we really locked it in,” New Franklin coach Ross Dobson said. “Our rotation was a little smaller tonight.

“I was really pleased, I think we shut them out there in the second quarter.”

Tyler Perkins scored four points in the second quarter, which New Franklin won 6-0. Perkins finished with 18 points. Cowans and Gallatin each added four for the Bulldogs.

Drew Sanders led Glasgow with 10 points and Deshonne Cowans had four.
