A scoring surge in late innings gave the New Franklin fall baseball team a 13-0 road shutout of Jamestown on October 5.

New Franklin jumped ahead early with one run scored in the second inning, and another in the third to lead 2-0. The Bulldog bats exploded in the top of the fifth with six runs scored, followed by five more in the sixth.

Meanwhile, New Franklin’s defense held Jamestown scoreless behind the solid pitching of Caleb Hull. The senior hurler allowed just three hits in six innings on the mound while striking out 10 batters. Sixty-two of his 79 pitches were strikes.

Leadoff hitter sophomore Jacob Marshall led the Bulldogs at the plate with four RBIs on two hits. Clayton Wilmsmeyer finished the day 3-for-4 with on RBI. Tanner Bishop drove in two runs on three hits with a home run. Owen Armentrout added a pair of RBIs with one hit.

New Franklin finished with 13 hits, 10 of which were for extra bases. Sophomore Drew Rhorer and Marshall each doubled. Bishop, Jacob Marshall, Rhorer, Clayton Wilmsmeyer, Connor Wilmsmeyer, Armentrout, all laid down triples. Bishop added a home run.

“I thought it was  huge to score first and keep them at bay, then explode for a few crooked numbers later in the game,” said New Franklin coach Erich Gerding.
