A New Franklin man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly brandished a pipe, a knife, and a handgun while threatening the lives of two other men and an infant child. Michael Patrick King, 28, is being held in the Howard County Jail on a $20,000 cash-only bond. He faces three charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon - Exhibiting, all Class E felonies, and one count of Armed Criminal Action, an unclassified felony.
According to a probable cause statement filed by New Franklin Police Chief Mike Wise, King allegedly threatened the lives of two men in a trailer at 401 East Broadway in New Franklin with both a two-foot metal pipe and a handgun. King failed to gain entry by kicking the trailer’s front door, then began hitting the trailer with the pipe, all the while screaming for his intended victim to exit the trailer.
Once police were alerted, King, along with the driver of the car in which he had arrived, left the scene. They were later found at a residence in Boonville.
According to the statement, King later told Chief Wise he was angry at his intended victim because of an earlier drug deal. King said the victim owed him money and got him fired from his lawn-care job.
He was scheduled to be arraigned before Judge Mason Gebhardt in Howard County court Tuesday morning as this newspaper went to press.
