Opinion on voting for healthcare

The Missouri State Legislature’s decision in 2012 not to take the free money the federal government was offering our state to expand medicaid still stands out to me as one of the most thoughtless acts of partisan gamesmanship in the modern era. This decision needlessly left scores of Missourians out in the cold in the name of a cosmetic victory.

In 2018 the health care landscape continues to shift. Missouri’s uninsured population is around 9%, and that number was on the rise as recently as last year. Amid this uncertainty voters in Missouri’s 4th district have a choice: re-elect Vicky Hartzler who voted in favor of the hastily-conceived and near-universally-reviled Repeal and Replace bill, or elect Renee Hoagenson who supports Medicare For All, a program that would create affordable health care for everyone in our country and save an estimated $2 trillion in federal spending.

I believe hardworking people in the 4th district deserve access to affordable health care, and that’s why I strongly urge anyone reading this to consider electing Renee Hoagenson for Congress.

Sincerely,

Evan Wood, Fayette, MO
