Glasgow resident, Pierce Monnig, age 38, passed away peacefully at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia on April 11, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.

Pierce Robert Nivert Monnig was born May 7, 1984 in Columbia, Missouri. He was one of three children born to Tom “Bear” and Natalie (Nivert) Monnig. He attended elementary school at St. Mary and graduated from Glasgow High School with the class of 2003. Throughout his career, Pierce held jobs with Perry’s Drive-In, Fresh Ideas and Monnig Industries. He will be remembered as a kind-hearted, caring and considerate person. He was always thoughtful and willing to lend a helpful hand. Pierce loved his family dearly and cherished his role as uncle to his nieces and nephews. He loved his pets, listening to music, always wearing a hat, and playing video games.

Survivors include his mother, Natalie Monnig of Glasgow, Missouri; two siblings, Ashley Monnig of Glasgow, Missouri and Trenton (Natalie) Monnig of Columbia, Missouri; two nephews, Logan and Damian Barton; two nieces, Gwen and Ava Monnig; aunts and uncles: Tim (Carol) Monnig of Glasgow, Missouri, John (Jan) Monnig of Glasgow, Missouri, Ron Monnig of Eagle Rock, Missouri, Nick (Marilyn) Nivert of Glasgow, Missouri and Donna Nivert of Athens, Texas; and step-aunt and uncle Linda (Billy) Nordmeyer of Glasgow, Missouri. He is also survived by numerous cousins. 

Pierce was preceded in death by his father, Tom “Bear” Monnig, uncle, Neil Nivert, and step-uncle, Jeff Boggs.

Family will receive friends and family at a celebration of life gathering from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, April 14, 2023, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow. A memorial service will be held privately at the convenience of the family, at Washington Cemetery in Glasgow, with Fr. Joshua Duncan officiating.
