Glasgow came back from an early 10-point deficit, but was unable to hold a fourth-quarter lead during a 54-50 loss to Pilot Grove in the third-place game of the Slater Wildcat Classic.

Antwaun Herriford gave the Yellowjackets a 45-42 lead with back-to-back 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. De’Shonne Cowans extended the lead to five with an offensive rebound and score with 4:50 left in the game, but the Yellowjackets would not have another field goal until the closing seconds.

Cowans stole the ball and took flight for a game-tying dunk with just under two minutes remaining, but officials ruled that an intentional foul occurred before Cowans was in the act of shooting. Cowans made one free throw, but the other spun out of the rim and the Yellowjackets were unable to take advantage of the ensuing possession.

Glasgow fell behind early on Saturday, trailing 6-0 and 22-12 in the first half before heating up offensively. Trevor Sanders caught a pass in the post and scored through contact to give Glasgow its first lead of the game at 25-23 with 2:14 left in the first half. Trevor Sanders finished with eight points and Drew Sanders added five.

Pilot Grove regained the lead with a 6-0 run in the third quarter, but Herriford answered with a tough running shot to put Glasgow ahead 34-33. Herriford finished with 15 points. Cowans had 11 points and Carson Frevert scored nine.

Glasgow led by as many as six in the third quarter and took a 39-38 lead into the final quarter. The Yellowjackets have a record of 7-9 after the loss.

Slater 63, Glasgow 24

Almost anything that could go wrong went wrong for the Yellowjackets in a 63-24 loss to Slater in the semifinal round.

Glasgow lost De’Shonne Cowans to an injury just 90 seconds into the game, dealing a blow to a frontcourt already dealing with the absence of Noah Boss, who was sick on Wednesday.

Drew Sanders knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to eat into a 7-0 deficit, but Glasgow went on a five-minute scoring drought and trailed 18-6 before Sanders connected from long range again.

Glasgow trailed 30-11 at the half and 56-18 heading into the fourth quarter.

Sanders had 10 of the Yellowjackets’ 11 first-half points and finished with 12.

Jaquan Cowans had three points and Spencer Wood knocked down a triple in the fourth quarter. Antwaun Herriford and Christian DeWolfe each made a shot as well.
