Plans forming for July 4 Party in the Park

Posted

Plans are moving forward for this year’s Independence Day Party in the Park. Since July 4 falls on a Sunday this year, events are expected to begin later in the afternoon in the Fayette City Park.

The annual Salute to Veterans parade that usually kicks off the day will be moved to sometime in the early evening. Family games and activities will be held in the afternoon. A fireworks display presented by the City of Fayette will begin at dusk.

This year marks a change in leadership for the popular event. Cathy Thogmornton, who has spearheaded the celebration since 2018, is passing the torch to Stephanie Ford and Joshua Kirby. The Party in the Park Committee is working to secure vendors and other events. Parade entries will continue to be welcomed.

The Fayette Rotary Club is hosting a cornhole tournament in the park starting at 2 p.m. The cost to enter is $20 per team. All proceeds will be put toward renovations at Liberty Park. For more information, contact Pat Roll at (660) 672-9354. (See ad on page 6).

New to this year’s celebration will be a raffle to assist in raising funds to pay for entertainment for the Independence Day celebrations in years to come. The committee is seeking donations of prizes from local businesses and organizations. Contact fayettepartyinthepark@gmail.com or visit the Party in the Park Facebook page for more information or to donate.

Party in the Park t-shirts are available for purchase through Sheep Dog Creations Boutique. Contact them at orders@sheepdogcreationsboutique.com or www.sheepdogcreationsboutique.com.

The Advertiser will print a full schedule of events and activities as it becomes available.
