Proclamation Boosts Flood Insurance Awareness

Posted
HOWARD COUNTY Presiding Commissioner Lowell Eaton signs a proclamation Friday morning which proclaims the first week in March as National Flood Insurance Awareness Week in Howard County. It calls on citizens to recognize the hazard of flooding and take precautions to protect themselves financially and emotionally. The signing came in conjunction with a proclamation by Gov. Bob Holden declaring March as Disaster Preparedness Month. Howard County takes part in the National Flood Insurance Program which has enacted ordinances to regulate development in floodplains and to enable people owning or buying property in a floodplain to insure against flood losses. (The complete text of the proclamation will be included in a future issue of the Fayette paper.) Looking on here are Western District Commissioner Howard Black, left, and Eastern District Commissioner William (Benji) Conrow. Standing is County Clerk Mark Hill.
