Property tax statements in the mail

Posted

Howard County Collector Jinger Felten has mailed the 2022 Howard County Real Estate and Personal Property tax statements along with any delinquent tax due. Tax payments may be paid in person at the Collector’s office in the Howard County courthouse through the end of business on Friday, December 30.

Anyone who has bought, sold, or owns real estate or personal property that was or was not included on tax statements should notify the collector’s office at (660) 248-2195 or assessor’s office at (660) 248-3400 immediately. Failure to receive a tax statement does not relieve the taxpayer of the obligation to pay. Any delinquent tax must be paid prior to the current tax year.

Taxes must be postmarked by December 31, 2022, or they will be returned for penalty and interest. Tax statements must be returned along with the correct amount due for proper identification when paying in the office or by mail.

The collector will again offer the Preauthorized Debit for prepay payments for 2023 based on the amount of real estate and/or personal property you paid in 2022.  Those interested should stop by the collector’s office to register for 2023.

Online Payments can be made at http://howardcounty.centralbank.net.

The collector has been charged with $11,158,047.50 for the current 2022 tax year. Of that amount, real estate taxes make up $6,265,216.96, personal property taxes are $3,118,279.63, railroad and utility state and local assessed taxes total $1,595,146.94, and the Howard County special levee and drainage district taxes figure at $179,403.97.

The courthouse will be closed November 24 and 25 for Thanksgiving. During the Christmas holiday, the collector’s office will be closed December 26 and January 2, 2023. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. thru 4:30 p.m. and open during noon hour.
