A PROJECT TO OVERLAY HIGHWAY 240 through Howard County is nearly complete. Crews rolled through downtown Fayette on Wednesday, after having completed a highly-traveled stretch from US 40 to town. The milling and overlay will, at least temporarily, improve conditions along Hwy. 240, which is traversed by more than 2,000 vehicles every day as drivers commute from Howard County to the Columbia area. The road had been reduced to terrible conditions in recent years from the heavy traffic. The worst areas were patched before an overlay of asphalt was applied. The overlay extends to both shoulders along Church Street through town.
