Auctioneer Mark Belcher, left, and event benefactor Dale Kirby of the A&K Cooperage in Higbee share a lighter moment Friday evening at St. Joseph Church Hall in Fayette. The event was the annual Fayette Rotary Wine Auction and Tasting which enjoyed an unusually good turnout this year according to event organizers.

While final calculations have not been tabulated as of press time, it appears the fund-raiser garnered more than $13,000. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Jessie Terrell Medical Fund and the Fayette Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry and Benevolent Fund. Belcher donated his services, as he has done in past years.

Jessie and Dale (her uncle) visit before the auction. A popular senior at Fayette High School, she suffers from a rare autoimmune disease known as scleroderma. The family's medical insurance has not been fully able to cover expensive treatments at a special clinic in Nevada. Numerous groups around Howard County have worked to raise funds for her medical expenses.
