Rotary donates Happy Can funds to area organizations

Posted

The guest speaker at the Fayette Rotary meeting on April 26 was Gary Moreau, Executive Director of Mobility Worldwide MO – Columbia.

Howard County Collector of Revenue Jinger Felten was also at the meeting representing the Fayette Athletic Boosters. Vice President Greg Stidham presented each with a check for $100 for their respective organizations as part of the club’s Happy Can project.

Moreau delivered a brief summary of the purpose and need for Mobility Worldwide which began in Columbia in 1994. Mobility Worldwide seeks to provide mobility for those with the greatest need and with the least resources in poor or underdeveloped nations.  According to Mobility Worldwide, the World Health Organization estimates that 70 million people need wheelchairs, yet only 5-15% of these people have access.  Worldwide Mobility builds and distributes Mobility Carts which are designed to go where conventional wheelchairs cannot, particularly in rural areas where roads are non-existent or in need of repair.
