Route 40 bridge replacement began this week

Road closure could last 6 months

The replacement of the U.S. Route 40 bridge over Salt Creek and the Katy Trail began on Monday, June 6.

The 80-year-old bridge, that crosses Salt Creek west of Highway 240 and east of New Franklin, will be replaced by a smoother, wider bridge which will improve motorist safety, according to Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT).

Route 40 could be closed for up to six months while construction takes place. A detour will be in place for motorists along Route 40, as well as those utilizing the Katy Trail.

The bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.

Work is weather permitting and could be delayed. For more information about these project or other transportation-related matters, call 1-888-ASK-MoDOT (275-6636) or visit www.modot.org/central. Follow the MoDOT Central Missouri District on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for project updates.
