Santa Fe Trail display now open in New Franklin

Posted

A brand-new exhibit featuring Women of the Santa Fe Trail, Santa Fe Traders, Santa Fe Trail, Forts, and Franklin is on display at the South Howard County Historical Society Museum in New Franklin. They tell the stories of these men and women who shaped the first major trail of commerce. It all started in this area in the original town of Franklin - a town that eventually washed away in the mighty Missouri floodwaters in 1826 and 1828. The museum is open on Saturdays and Sundays, from 1 to 4 p.m., in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Santa Fe Trail.

On Sunday, June 6, there will be a DAR wreath-laying at The Rock in downtown New Franklin followed by a presentation by Tim Williams, a fifth great-grandson of early Howard County settler Ezekiel Williams. The event begins at 1:45 p.m. Snacks will be available after the presentation, which will take place in the South Howard County Historical Society Museum.
