Rural Armstrong resident Sara Allison, age 96, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2022, at Glasgow Gardens.

Sara F. Allison was born November 15, 1926, in Springfield, Illinois, to the late Maurice G. Peter and Frances Cowin Peter Cody. Sara spent her childhood with her father and stepmother, Helen, two sisters, and two brothers. They lived in a variety of places as her father was a Lt. Colonel in the United States Cavalry. She had many good memories from Illinois, Louisiana, Florida, and Texas. She graduated from high school in Paris, Texas, and then went on to nurse training in Springfield, Illinois. On July 6, 1946, Sara eloped and married the love of her life, Kenneth E. Allison, in Mt. Sterling, Illinois. Following over 46 years of marriage, Kenneth preceded her in death on October 19, 1992.

In 1965, Sara and Kenneth bought a farm outside of Armstrong, Missouri, and moved to Howard County, where together, they built their farming operation and raised six children. Sara lived on the farm until January of 2022.

Throughout her career in the community, Sara worked at Keller Hospital, Endless Options, and was the Activities Director at Colonial Manor (Glasgow Gardens) in Glasgow, Missouri. She particularly enjoyed working with older people who could use a little extra love. She was an active member of several organizations, including the Lively Workers Club, the National Farmer's Organization, and the Missouri Rural Crisis Center. And in 1988 was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta, Georgia.

Sara loved animals and gardening. She was committed to her loyal dog and constant companion, Buddy, and to her cat, Miss Kitty. She was devoted to her flowers and birds, especially her hummingbirds. She planted hundreds of flowers over the years and helped thousands of birds enjoy their journies through Howard County by religiously feeding and housing them. She loved classical music, westerns, and travel shows. Her favorite thing of all was chocolate! All these things, along with the love of her family and friends, brought her great joy.

Survivors include five children, Gayle Stevens of Champaign, Illinois, Roger (Rhonda Perry) Allison of Armstrong, Missouri, Peter Allison of Fayette, Missouri, Mark Allison of Paola, Kansas, and Diana Allison (Bob Mounter) of Alleyton, Texas; 11 grandchildren including, Jennifer (Dennis) Huffman, Allison (Terry) Bishop, Daly (Magnus) Andersson, Donald (Leah) Vroman, Chris (Amber) Vroman, Eric (Alisa) Vroman, Chris Rosner, Sara Allison, Caitlin Allison, Jessica Allison, and Joey Ingham; 15 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Jim (Elaine) Peter of Carrolton, Texas, Julia Sawyer of Thomasville, Georgia, and Kathy (Gordon) Nelson of Diamond Head, Mississippi.

In addition to her husband and parents, Sara was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Don Vroman of Armstrong, Missouri, and her brother, Maury Peter of Thomasville, Georgia.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 16, at 1 p.m. at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette, with Rev. Kerry Kesey officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the funeral home starting at noon.
