Country music star Sara Evans and her husband have purchased property in Howard County.

While the couple has made no formal announcement, Evans has on occasion spoken about her hope to eventually own a place 'back home.'

The singer, who was reared near Boonesboro, is a 1989 graduate of New Franklin High School. A number of her relatives continue to reside in Howard County.

She has become known as one of country music's fastest-rising stars. 'Born to Fly' ' which she wrote ' is considered by many to be her best-known hit.

Her most recent album cut is 'Perfect.' This week it entered the top-10 of Billboard's 'Hot County Singles & Tracks.' The recording is now in the number-9 position.

The property she and her husband (Craig Schelske) have purchased is located at 201 HoCo Rd. 451 (Cedar Grove School Road), a short distance northeast of New Franklin. This is off of Rt. P just south of the intersection of Rts. P and DD.

The real estate consists of 3.2 acres with a two-story country home. It is known to many as the old Paul Schlotzhauer place.

According to courthouse documents dated Feb. 5, the property was purchased by Craig L. and Sara L. Schelske of Brentwood, Tenn., a suburb of Nashville. Courthouse observers speculate that Sara and her family will use the residence as a summer and holiday retreat. The couple has two small children. The property was purchased from Bruce and Tammy Hackman and Bruce and Brenda Oser.

The purchase price was not disclosed; however, the Schelskes ' acting through a third person with power-of-attorney ' signed a promissory note on Jan. 30 for $101,600.
