THE FINAL KIDS MARKET OF THE SEASON took place Saturday morning on the west side of the downtown Fayette square. For the second year in a row, the event gave young Howard County entrepreneurs a place to sell their products ranging from homemade treats, to jewelry, soaps, honey, and holiday ornaments.

Spearheaded by Liz Dougherty and presented by Fayette Main Street, Inc., the Kids Market ran the first two Saturdays in June, July, and August. Dougherty said the next Kids Market is expected to take place in conjunction with the Fayette Christmas Parade on December 3. Further details will be announced leading up to the event.

Dougherty said the turnout each week has drawn strong community support. The young enterprisers often buy and sell among one another. “They really learned the value of the dollar,” Dougherty said.

The Kids Market is expected to return next year, although not necessarily with the same schedule. Dougherty said she might tweak the planning to so that market days coincide with other events happening around the square, such as Juneteenth and the Fayette Festival of the Arts.
