Senior receiver Kaden Polson signs with Mo. Valley

Posted

Fayette High School receiver Kaden Polson committed to play football at the next level. On Friday, the senior made it official when he signed with the Missouri Valley Vikings next season.

Polson said he had interest from several schools but ultimately settled with Missouri Valley after a visit with the coaches and tour of the campus. “It was a great experience,” he said.

“They have a really great facility. I want to help them rise to be a great contender for the conference championship and maybe even the national title.”

MVC assistant coach Greg Purdam said he recruited Polson because of his tremendous athletic ability and plans to play him at slot receiver in the program’s spread offense. “One of the big reasons I was going after him was his overall speed and athleticism,” he said. “We’re tickled to death to have him.”

Fayette coach Mike Thompson called the slot receiver an ideal position for Polson to play at the collegiate level. “He is the prototypical type for a slot receiver,” he said. “He’s got really good ball skills with the ball in the air.”

As a senior, Polson made 25 pass receptions for 283 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran the ball 39 times for 61 yards and two touchdowns.

“He’s really good on the offensive side with the ball in his hands. As a receiver, I thought he did a really good job,” coach Thompson said. “He was pretty electric when he had the ball in his hands.”

Defensively this season Polson recorded 51 tackles, returned six interceptions for 53 yards, and recovered a fumble. Thompson said those six interceptions were particularly impressive in a league that skews heavily toward running the ball rather than passing.

“Kaden really developed from last year,” said Thompson. “He had a really good year last year, but I thought he really made huge strides from last year to this year.”

Missouri Valley, in Marshall, is only about an hour-long drive from Fayette. And since it’s in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, MVC will play at Central Methodist every other year. Thompson said watching past players at the college level is a highlight of any high school coach’s career. “It’s cool when you get to see them and everybody gets to go watch them when they come to CMU.”

Lead by 19-year head coach Paul Troth, the Vikings finished just 1-6 in 2020, and 0-5 in the conference, down from a 3-8 season in 2019.

Fayette finished 6-5 for the season and 4-3 in the Lewis & Clark Conference in 2020.
