Two newly elected curators joined the board. They are Dr. Jane V. Clark, a retired United Methodist Minister from St. Louis, and Nancy Walker Peacock, M.D., a physician from Nashville, Tenn., who earned her bachelor's degree in biology from CMC in 1982.

Shaner earned his bachelor's degree in chemistry from CMC in 1970. He is interim chief executive officer of Remec, a California firm that designs and manufactures high-frequency electronic subsystems used to move integrated voice, video and data traffic over wireless communications networks. He recently retired as president of wireless operations for Cingular Wireless, a position he held from 2001 to 2003. Previously he was president of SBC Wireless Inc. from 1999 to 2001 and president and chief executive officer of Pacific Bell Wireless from 1998 to 1999.

Shaner also served as president of SBCI Europe and Middle East for SBC International Inc. from 1997 to 1998, as president and chief executive officer of SBC International Wireless from 1995 to 1997 and as executive vice president for Southwestern Bell Mobile System from 1991 to 1995. Prior to 1991, he held various other management positions at Southwestern Bell Telephone/Telecom and Cellular One.

Shaner and his wife, Louann, also a 1970 graduate of CMC, have two grown children and live on Hilton Head Island, S.C.

They are frequent visitors here. Louann is the daughter of Jim and Helen Thogmorton of Fayette.
