Behind the efforts of its sharpshooters, the Central Methodist men’s basketball program earned a 70-60 victory over Heart South Division foe Benedictine College Thursday night in Atchison, Kansas.
With the victory, Central improves to 17-8 and 8-6 in the conference, while the Ravens fall to 13-10 and 7-7 in the Heart.
CMU held a nine-point advantage at halftime before Benedictine pulled within one with 10:32 remaining in the second. However, back-to-back 3-pointers from sophomores Isaiah May and Jonathan Brown pushed the Eagles lead back out to seven points. Central maintained its seven-point lead for the rest of the game, eventually earning a 10-point victory.
The story of the night for Central was the sharpshooters, as the Eagles knocked down 11 3-point shots. It marks the most by the CMU squad in conference play this season.
May had a career night. The guard scored a career-best 20 points on 50% shooting from the floor which included six 3-point makes.
Brown finished the evening with 18 points including four 3-pointers in all 40 minutes of action. Senior Tim Cameron was the final Eagle to reach double-digit scoring with 13 points.
Senior forward Fode Camara nearly earned a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. He stuffed the stat sheets with six steals, five assists, and three blocks.
The Eagles shot efficiently from all areas of the floor, converting 45.8% from three and 75% from the charity stripe.
Both squads were even on the boards as each side grabbed 30 rebounds. Central’s defense forced 20 Raven turnovers on eight steals.
