Sidney Alsop McClanahan passed away peacefully at home in Columbia, Missouri on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at the age of 88.

Sid, as he was known, was born October 9, 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the son of Sidney Boswell McClanahan and Mary Elizabeth Alsop McClanahan (Alsop & Graham Drug, Fayette). 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years Betty McClanahan also of Columbia, Missouri, his son William McClanahan and wife Helene of Columbus, Ohio, his stepdaughter Gina Hamilton of Warrenton, Missouri, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Sid graduated from Clayton High School in St. Louis and attended Washington University in St. Louis where he played football and simultaneously played sousaphone in the marching band at halftime of the football games. He was a lifelong sports fan, Mizzou football fan, St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, and he loved coaching junior league football. In fact, he was a founder of the junior football league in St. Peters, Missouri in the 1970’s. He was also a lifetime member of the St. Louis #9 Elks Club (57yrs).

Graveside services honoring Sid’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Fayette with Rev. Bill O’Neal officiating.
