Six buildings and their owners will receive historic preservation awards May 13.

Pam Huttsell, chair of the City of Fayette's Historic Preservation Commission, said the awards will be presented at 7 p.m. in Bishops Hall at St. Mary's Episcopal Church.

The owners and buildings to be recognized:

' Jasper and Elizabeth Meals, owners of the historic Abiel Leonard home, Oakwood, at 101 Leonard Avenue.

' Sam Cleveland, owner of the historic Joseph Withers home at 410 North Church.

' Tony and Simone Ridgewell, owners of part of the Butler Block on the north side of the courthouse square.

' James Clatworthy and family, owners of part of the Butler Block.

' St. Mary's Episcopal Church at 104 West Davis St. It is owned by the Episcopal Diocese of West Missouri.

' The Uriel Wright Building, on the west side of the courthouse square, owned by the Fayette Area Heritage Association

Oakwood, the Butler Block, St. Mary's and the Uriel Wright Building are on the National Register of Historic Places. Oakwood, St. Mary's, and the Uriel Wright Building date from before the Civil War.

Huttsell said these persons will be the 'first recipients to receive Fayette's Notable Building Awards.'

She said the event will be held in conjunction with National Preservation Week.

It will 'recognize those who have undertaken restoration efforts with an emphasis on historic preservation.' she said.
