South Church sidewalk project nearing completion

Posted

One of three major projects ongoing in Fayette is nearly complete. The construction of an ADA-compliant sidewalk along South Church Street began in September 2021, and is contracted to be finished no later than February 14, 2022.

Members of the city’s Board of Alderman unanimously approved what is expected to be the penultimate payment to B&P Patterson Concrete and Construction, the company building the sidewalk, during its regular meeting on January 11.

The council also approved a change order that increased the cost of the project by $608.10. Additional concrete was needed around the island near Casey’s convenience store.

“That pretty much zeroed out many of the project numbers,” explained Don Jenkins, the MECO engineer overseeing the project.

Jenkins said the project is approximately $14,000 away from completion. “Probably the next payout will be the final,” he said.

The sidewalk project also includes a crosswalk with signs across South Church Street along Depot Street, between C&R Market and Dollar General.

The total project cost is $231,531.80, with the majority of the funding coming by way of a USDA grant.
