Thirty-six track athletes from Fayette, New Franklin, Glasgow, Higbee, and Harrisburg qualified for this weekend’s state high school track meet in Jefferson City.

The Glasgow and Harrisburg boys took team championships at their sectional meets on Saturday.

Leading the way was Glasgow with 14 athletes headed to state in eight events. Harrisburg will send 13 athletes in 11 events. New Franklin is sending seven athletes to the state competition in five events. Fayette has six athletes in six events. Higbee will send four athletes in two events.

During the sectional round, area athletes earned seven first-place finishes. Fayette freshman Carter Vroman won the javelin throw with a distance of 152 feet, 9 inches. Fayette’s girls’ 4x100-meter relay team, comprised of Mae Snyder, Lasaydra Jackman, Madison Race, and Browyn Eubanks, took top honors with a winning time of 51.69 seconds.

Harrisburg finished the day with three first-place finishes and a new new school record. Braden Wyatt won the boys’ 400 meters with a time of 50.40 seconds. Josh Cochran took top honors in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.79. Emma Fisher posted a winning distance of 34.03 meters in the javelin throw.

In addition, Harrisburg’s 4x100-meter relay team set a new school record. Braden Wyatt, Joshua Cochran, Austin Darwent, and Hunter Cole posted  a second-place time of 44.47 seconds.

Two Glasgow girls finished on top in their events. Distance runner Addison Barringhaus won the 3200 meters in 12:55.86. She also finished second in the 1600 meters. Kaitlyn Monnig won the girls’ pole vault with a height of 8 feet, 2.5 inches.

The Higbee girls’ 4x100 and 4x200-meter relay teams smashed school records while qualifying for state competition.

The state track meet will be held Friday and Saturday at Jefferson City High School’s Adkins Stadium.
